Derek Lilley put Leeds in front after nineteen minutes but just when it seemed Leeds had won, Sanneh equalized for the home team in the final minute. United had to make three substitutions with Paul Shepherd replacing Tony Dorigo at Left Back after thirty-two minutes, Andy Couzens replaced Mark Jackson at Outside Right four minutes before Half-Time and Martin Foster took over from Lee Bowyer at Outside Left with nine minutes to go. D.C. United also made four substitutions, three in the half-time break when Benedict Iroha replaced David Vaudreuil, Richie Williams came on for Marco Etcheverry and John Maessner replaced John Harkes. The fourth was after seventy-eight minutes when Joey Thieman replaced Steve Rammel.
